What is the Stonfo Leader Straightener?
As the name suggests, it's a gadget for straightening your leader. When you attach a new leader it will often have coil memory when first unravelled from its packet or pulled from the spool. This will affect presentation and make it easier for the fish to see the line. By using a leader straightener you can get rid of the coils and twists so the leader lies flat, greatly improving your presentation.

How does a leader straightener work?
A leader straightener uses heat from friction to warm up the line and let you stretch it and remove any coils or twisty bits. To do this you simply place the leader between the pads of the leader straightener and grip with moderate force and then pull and stretch gently with the other hand.

How effective is this leader straightener?
This is a nice, compact leader straightener with an ergonomically designed grip and two rubber pads that generates friction heat with ease. Cleverly, there are two different thumb grips on the handle which allow you to use more or less pressure when pulling.
If you're using a tapered leader or thicker line, you might need to use a bit more pressure by gripping closer to the top of the straightener. However, when you're straightening thinner tippet you'll need far less pressure and can use the other grip and less force when stretching. It's very quick and easy to use and really effective on leaders of most types and there's the usual hole in one end so you can attach it to a zinger, retractor or lanyard.
How much does it cost?
The Stonfo Leader Straightener sells for around £7.70. It's strong, effective, well made and should last for many years.
