What is the Loop Cargo System Duffel Bag?

The Loop Cargo System Duffel Bag is an extremely robust heavy-duty holdall designed to keep your gear safe and dry on fishing trips. Like the other bags and packs in the Loop Cargo System range, it's made from welded PVC tarp and is built to last.

Are these bags waterproof?

Like the others in the range, the only bit of the bag that's not waterproof is the zipper. Loop says they're "100% fully waterproof up to zipper and semi-dry above". I think they're being cautious there.

The bag itself is made from thick, heavy PVC and the seams are welded, so it gets a soaking your stuff is unlikely to get damp unless the zips are undone. These bags keep everything dry. With my Loop Dry Backpack, the only way stuff can get wet is if you leave the top open, and the Duffel bag is just the same.

What size is this bag?

There are two duffel bags in the Loop Cargo System range, the 50-litre one I have and a larger 90-litre model. Both bags are the standard Loop Blue and Black colours. The 50-litre bag measures 50 x 30 x 30cm, while the 90-litre bag measured 75 x 37 x 37cm. There's plenty of room in here for the average fishing trip and they make excellent boat bags.

Are they well made?

To say these are well made would be a massive understatement. They're ridiculously over-engineered. They're not light, due to the very thick and heavy-duty materials used, but everything feels extremely robust and well put together.

The material feels extremely robust, everything is heat-sealed to keep out water, and the fittings are all premium brands, including zippers from YKK and buckles from Duraflex. My other Loop Cargo System bag has had years of heavy use and is still in great shape, and I can see this holdall lasting just as long.

Does it have any internal storage?

There's a single main compartment to keep all your gear plus a large waterproof internal pocket with a zipper located in the flap. 50 litres is plenty of room to carry enough clothes for a weekend, or food, water and cooking gear if you're out on a longer trip.

Is there anywhere to attach a rod?

Yes, there are lockers and pull cords on both sides to allow you to strap a couple of fly rod tubes to the outside of the bag. As with the rest of the fittings, these are very high quality and grip onto the tube tightly when pulled firmly.

What about straps and handles?

The bag is clearly made for lugging heavy loads. There's the usual pair of top handles as well as a 70mm wide removable shoulder strap but, best of all, each end of the bag is fitted with an ergonomic plastic handle to help you lug the bag into a boat or (in my case) old Land Rover.

There are also four massively chunky UTX Flex D-rings on the bag designed to let you strap it down to a boat, quad bike, or roof rack.

How much do they cost?

These are currently on sale at Loop. The smallest 50-litre model sells for £85, while the big 90-litre bag costs £120. I paid about £28 for mine in the Black Friday sales. Given the quality, they're an absolute bargain if you're looking for a robust and virtually waterproof fishing bag.
